#GirlTrek Goes to #Selma50

For 3 years, we've rallied 25,000 women and girls to walk for healing and to reclaim the streets of our neighborhoods. We've logged over a million miles, but none of them will be as historically significant as steps we will take together this March, so dust off those bullhorns and get those signs ready! We are going to march arm-in-arm with President Obama and some of the living legends of the Civil Rights Movement and we want YOU there with us! All the important details below!

#Selma50. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday and the historic Selma to Montgomery march across the Edmund Pettus bridge. Thousands of people are expected in Selma, Alabama to mark the occasion and to participate in a bridge crossing reenactment.

GirlTrek will be there in a MAJOR way! We are chartering 10 buses, from 10 cities, for a weekend turnaround trip March 6-8th. We are inviting YOU to join us and we'll get you there FOR FREE!

Here's a brief overview of how it will all go down. (For full details and to reserve your spot now - click here.)

Friday, March 6th at 1PM: Buses depart from Washington DC, Detroit, Chicago, and St. Louis headed for the GirlTrek rendezvous spot - Birmingham, Alabama.

Saturday, March 7th at 9AM: Buses depart from New Orleans, Memphis, Chattanooga, Jackson and Atlanta headed for the GirlTrek rendezvous spot of Birmingham, Alabama.

Saturday night in Birmingham! It's the 10-city GirlTrek party to end all parties!!!! THEN, bright and early on Sunday we will all caravan, in GirlTrek buses, to Selma to pay our respects to those who marched before us. The tribute march begins at 2:30pm on Sunday March 8th.

Sunday evening: All buses will depart to their home cities in time for you to be back at work on Monday morning!

Picture it! 500 strong in superhero blue shirts - front and center in the reenactment of the iconic walk across the Edmund Pettus Bridge!

Are you fired up and ready to go? Here's what you need to do now:

1. Reserve your spot on the bus! Click here. All seats must be reserved by Monday, February 9th. Buses are totally free!

2. Get your "Freedom Fighter Swag Bag"! When you reserve your bus seat you will be required to pay a $35 fee to reserve your "Freedom Fighter Swag Bag", which includes a special edition "GirlTrek Selma 50" T-Shirt and a red Rosie the Riveter bandana. We'll be marching in style! You can select your size at check out.

3. Lodging! Hotel registration will open on Tuesday, February 10th. Participants on the Friday buses will have a room for two nights. Participants on the Saturday buses will have a room for one night. Room cost will be $45 per person, per night + taxes. If you follow #Selma50, you'll see people are sleeping on basement floors, camping outside, making it happen however they can to participate in this historic event. BUT WE GOT YOU! We literally booked the last 165 hotel rooms in a 200-mile radius of Selma! But here's the kick, they are all King beds, which means, to accommodate all 500 women, we'll need to make this a "freedom fighter slumber party!" 3 women in each room. Rollaway beds, sleeping bags, air mattresses, we're gonna make it happen for history! Don't worry! You can pick your roommates or we'll help you find roommates. Just remember, the dedicated activist whose lives we honor camped out each night in open fields without fancy camping equipment, warm showers or hot meals. We can certainly make it happen in a plush hotel!

4. Tell the world! "#GirlTrek goes to #Selma50

What did we tell you? This is our time! The world will be watching. Let's show up for our health. Let's show up for or our families. Let's show up for the issues that matter to us. Let's show up for each other!

See you in Selma! (awww, that feels SO good to write!)
