GirlTrek is a movement of thousands of Black women and girls who inspire each other to live our healthiest most fulfilled lives. Each month, we issue fun walking challenges to help you get off the couch!

1. We issue monthly walking challenges that help individual women get started! 2. We help women organize walking teams with their friends for support! 3. We tap into Black history and culture for inspiration! 4. We make fitness fun because health should also lead to happiness!

Women start at every level. Trekkers are women of all shapes and sizes. Most women start out at 30-minutes of walking a day. Many women go on to walk half-marathons, marathons and more.

GirlTrek is designed to meet the unique needs of Black women. Black women are disproportionately affected by and dying from preventable, obesity-related diseases. However, we welcome all women to walk with us and experience the GirlTrek sisterhood and joy.

Walking is a great way to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight. Walking can reduce your risk of diabetes by 58%. Women who walk three hours or more per week reduce their risk of a heart attack or other coronary event by 35% compared with women who do not walk.

It’s fun, free and a great way to get active. There are thousands of supportive Black women in Team GirlTrek who are there to cheer you on as you reach your goals. There’s also exclusive gear, cool prizes and special invitations to wellness retreats.

Take your first walk! It’s a 30-minute walk at your own pace. Thousands of women are doing it this very moment.

Awesome! Start a walking team in your neighborhood church or office. Teams typically meet every Saturday morning! Get organized now by emailing Nicole, GirlTrek's National Field Director at nicole@girltrek.org. She'll get you rolling!

10. Can I start a virtual team?

10. Can I start a virtual team?

Yes! Many GirlTrek teams are friends or family from around the country who support and encourage each other virtually. They check-in with each other during their Saturday morning walks by phone, text, email, and social media.

11. Do I need a team to participate?

No! Most women in GirlTrek are solo Trekkers. They walk alone, participate in challenges, and enjoy the virtual sisterhood and support.

It's easy to spot a sister who is a part of Team GirlTrek? We all sport an official “super-hero blue” team shirt when out taking walks. We'll be checking for you on the street! Get your shirt today!
